It started with a post on the Facebook Marketplace...I sell handmade crocheted Christmas stockings and in 2019 a woman requested to purchase 15 of them! She explained that she wants to donate them to survivors of human trafficking in the Detroit area, so I offered her 50% off of her order.

It started with a post on the Facebook Marketplace...I sell handmade crocheted Christmas stockings and in 2019 a woman requested to purchase 15 of them! She explained that she wants to donate them to survivors of human trafficking in the Detroit area, so I offered her 50% off of her order.
It turns out that she is herself a survivor of trafficking and violence, and wanted to do something kind for girls and women in her therapy group who live at the Metro Detroit area shelter Alternatives for Girls. That year I made 15 stockings (plus one for her) and started a Facebook fundraiser to raise money to cover the costs. We had an amazing response, donations covered the cost of the stockings and all the wonderful gifts to stuff them with. That gave us the courage to continue the mission.
We've expanded to include care packages for unhoused neighbors as well, year-round.
